In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  John 1:4

After a refreshing break, a renewal in celebrating Jesus' birth and God's amazing love, we are once again back to learning in an intentional way here at KA!  Everyone seems to be happy to see each other again, and the routine and study habits are gradually coming back...
The MS Lit students finished off the reading of A Christmas Carol by watching the DVD-black and white version, which followed the book well, and was fun to see the characters.  They all did well on their essay exam.  We are now into the unit on Our Land-stories and poems focusing on the blessings God has given us in the USA.  Ask your kids to share the acrostic poems they wrote-very creative!  In Grammar, we are learning subject-verb agreement so their writing will hold together well grammatically!
The 10th grade lit class finished the semester well and enjoyed the movie version of The Giver.
We are now reading symbolic literature, focusing on allegory, analogy, parable, and fable. From Aesop, Keats and Cowper to Emerson, cummings and Poe.  Amazing how much more there is in a writing than meets the eye!
Reading and analyzing significant sections of C.S.Lewis's Screwtape Letters provided the 11/12th grade Lit students a unique angle to consider on the many schemes the devil uses in his struggle against God for power over humans and God's amazing love for His Creation.  The material led to great discussions and the final test showed good understanding.  I pray that God uses this material in each student's spiritual growth.  We've returned to our American Literature books now and are reading literature from the period of American Romanticism.  Rip Van Winkle (Irving), The Deerslayer (Cooper) and To a Waterfowl (Bryant) are the beginning selections.
Family and Consumer Science class is doing a unit on Textiles and Fashion.  We've learned about Biblical textiles, modesty in fashion, and careers.  We took a field trip to Quilts n' Gifts yesterday and learned much about the career path of the  owner and her goals for her successful business!  We will look at design, color, and specific natural fibers, like cotton, flax, wool and alpaca.  Several talented peopled have agreed to present and teach textile-related skills over the next 6 weeks-we're excited!
Thanks for all you do to support your kids, the administrators, the teachers and this school.  It's an honor to teach here.
