Well, the year is flying by, and the kids are doing great. It's a joy to see what each day will bring.

The middle school is working on

  • Repeating decimals and how to round them
  • The distributive property in formulas (like the perimeter of a rectangle)
  • Solving for a variable in an equation by moving numbers to the opposite side of the equation
  • The Rectangular Coordinate system (graphing points)
  • Mean, Median, Mode, and Range of a set of numbers
  • Combining fractions by finding common denominators
  • The radian measure of an angle vs the degree measure of an angle
  • How to graph the sine and cosine curve
Almost every day there is a new concept, but that covers several days worth of work.

The high school geometry classes are looking at different parts of a circle (circumferance, radius, diameter, chord, tangent,...), how to find the different centers of a triangle (centroid, incenter, orthorcenter, and circumcenter), the different congruence conjectures for triangles (SSS, SAS, and SAA), and much more.

The Pre-Calculus class just finished a chapter on how sine, cosine, and tangent work in circles and triangles. Now, they will begin studying the graphs of the sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent graphs along with their properties.

The Small Gas Engines class had a success when they fixed a backpack blower. They thought they had a success when they finished putting a 4-wheeler back together and it ran for a while. However, it finally puttered out, wouldn't start back up, and left us baffled as to what the problem could be. They are continuing to do some class work, as well as trying to troubleshoot the problems of a tiller. I'm excited to see the kids doing hands on things in class.

The Publications class takes daily pictures of students in each of the various classrooms. Toward the end of the year, we hope to create a year book with some of those pictures. They also provide us with daily announcements, a daily facebook post, and about 2 newsletters per quarter. It may not be the busiest class they've ever taken, but I believe it has been a benefit to the whole school.

To wrap up, I want to ask for your prayers. We appreciate the support we receive from parents, volunteers, and anybody else that helps. However, the prayers are vitally important and I know anybody can do that regardless of where you are at, or how capable you are of physically coming to the building. Thank you for everything.
