Greetings!  Classes have been clipping along, with literature classes experiencing writings from many authors, many of whom were unfamiliar.  The middle schoolers have studied works of Courage by Edith Cavell and Mrs. Howard Taylor.  We have read writings about Nature and Man by various authors such as Ogden Nash, Charles G. Finney.  We all had fun writing Humerous Poems after experiencing Ogden Nash and Rosalie Moore's poetry.  The study of nouns, verbs and pronouns has added to the writing assignments.
The 11/12 grade lit class has focused on the Literature of Religious Experience-reading works by Roger Williams, Anne Bradstreet, and Edward Taylor and Jonathon Edwards.  We experienced the sermon written by Edwards by watching a YouTube of Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. We are now learning Literature of the Revolution, starting with Ben Franklin.
The 10th grade lit class has enjoyed poems by Emily Dickenson, John Greenleaf Whittier, and Shakespeare.  An Old-Fashioned Iowa Christmas by Paul Engle filled us with cozy Christmas memories of our own.  The Return of the Rangers confronted us with the harsh realities of nature, and an appreciation of Kenneth Roberts' writing.
The Family and Consumer Science class has worked hard learning about grains, legumes, and fats/oils.  We enjoyed presentations by Kristen Kaehr on Grains, LeAnn Gerber on Yeast Breads, and Lydia Kaehr on food preservation!   We are seeing, though, that it still takes preparation with reading/answering questions to be able to create in the kitchen!
Each week is full, and we all get stretched as we learn.  I'm thankful for each student, their hard work, and all they contribute to me and each other.
